AIoT Bicycle Counting System

Control box and sensor strips of the smart bicycle counting system
Smart Bicycle Counting System Development

Project Overview

In this project, the client commissioned YenProtek to develop a bicycle counting device, aiming to use technology to automatically collect accurate and reliable bicycle count data while identifying and excluding pedestrians, motorcycles, and other traffic, saving manpower and avoiding the errors of manual counting. To meet the client's need for around-the-clock automatic counting and bicycle data collection, YenProtek designed the "Smart Bicycle Counting System," which combines automated monitoring equipment with wireless communication and cloud analytics to greatly improve the efficiency of data collection and integration, making the data more complete and comprehensive.

The system consists mainly of sensor strips and a control box, both simple and convenient to install and remove. Simply install the strips and the waterproof control box at suitable locations, and passing bicycles will trigger the sensor strips, enabling complete, uninterrupted 24/7 collection of bicycle signals regardless of weather or time of day. Data such as bicycle counts, the time each bicycle passes the sensor, and speed can be obtained continuously over the long term. The data is then automatically uploaded to the cloud via NB-IoT to build a database that analysts can reference when formulating bicycle-related transportation strategies.

Beyond collecting bicycle statistics on roads, long-term observation of the statistical data gives the client a stronger basis for assessing and forecasting traffic density in each time period, understanding the popularity of specific locations, scheduling maintenance for related facilities, and planning bicycle lanes and other infrastructure.
