Project Development Overview
We collaborated with Taiwan's largest Smart Agriculture system company to develop a smart field environmental sensor product, with YenProtek providing the foundational technological support. To accommodate different terrains and geological features, the sensor's structure utilizes a modular design that can be easily plugged in and removed. The internal communication relies on RS485, allowing for a flexible and convenient selection of sensor quantities. To meet the needs of various field types, four main technologies are offered for wireless data transmission: LoRa, NB-IoT, LTE, and Wi-Fi. The options for environmental sensors include sensing elements such as illuminance, photosynthetically active radiation (photons), atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity, carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration, soil temperature and humidity, soil salinity, water level, wind speed, and wind direction. Currently, the product has been mass-produced for commercial sale and practically deployed across numerous sites both domestically and internationally.
Project Development Information
Functions and Structural Design of the Smart Field Sensor:
- Utility Power (AC):
- Input: AC85~240V 50~60Hz
- Output: DC5V 2A
- Environmental Power (Solar power, or optional wind power):
- Since some areas or terrains may present wiring difficulties, an environmentally friendly power system is provided as an option (solar power, or added wind power). This flexible option eliminates the need for an additional power supply setup, making installation safe and easy, and saving on construction costs. The outdoor charge/discharge control system includes a 20W solar panel and a power management module. The solar cells can fully charge in 12.5 hours under sufficient sunlight. Under normal sunny conditions, there is no need to replace the battery. Once fully charged, it can operate without sunlight for over 3 weeks.
- To overcome the unpredictability of power supply in outdoor environments, the smart field sensor was designed with smart power-saving technology to enhance operational efficiency and reduce unnecessary power consumption. The main control board can be scheduled to enter Sleep mode via a power management mechanism, automatically turning off most system functions based on communication status with the server to meet power-saving requirements. In Sleep mode, basic standby power consumption is less than 10mA, which effectively extends standby time.

- In an offline state, data is temporarily stored with a capacity of up to 30GB
- After the smart agriculture field environmental sensor is deployed, if parameter settings need modifying or firmware requires updating, disassembling it from the site again is cumbersome and labor-intensive. For this reason, we designed a wireless setup function. The sensor simply connects via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to configure parameters, and firmware can also be updated remotely. This significantly reduces the workload for on-site personnel.
