Project Development Overview
A punch press processing operator in Taichung wanted to collect production data across their assembly lines (production status of each machine, OEE, etc.). However, most of the factory's current machines were older models lacking network connectivity for data collection. In addition to a mix of old and new machines, there were various brands. Therefore, the operator hoped YenProtek could help plan a solution to enable legacy machines to collect and monitor modern data, all without modifying the existing machinery and with rapid installation.
Currently, many punch press operators in Taiwan face the same dilemma: how to collect production data from both old and new machines on the production line? These non-networked machines often become a major bottleneck in plant-wide data collection and driving Digital Transformation. YenProtek designed a smart production data collection system for punch press operators. By simply installing a control box (containing a counter and communication module) next to the punch press machine, the number of punches can be monitored in real time. The production data for each machine is immediately sent to the Cloud via wireless communication (Wi-Fi was used in this project). Whether it is an old or new machine model, data is seamlessly integrated and displayed on a web platform. The system automatically converts count data to generate OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) rates, freeing operators from concerns over manual recording errors or incomplete data. Furthermore, they can leverage the system's data as a foundation for reviewing and optimizing production efficiency.
