Factory Loading Dock Upgrades: Smart Safety Alert System Protecting Workers 24/7!

Dock Safety Interface

Rapid Forklift and Personnel Identification Using UWB Technology

Secure high-traffic work zones and prevent accidents

In loading dock areas where cargo trucks, forklifts, and other vehicles move frequently, high-precision UWB positioning technology calculates the exact distance between receivers and forklifts (UWB Tags). Once a UWB Tag enters the designated safety perimeter, the system instantly triggers active alerts to remind nearby personnel to remain cautious.

Project Development Overview

A leading semiconductor technology enterprise sought to utilize advanced sensing hardware and IoT technology to accurately locate moving forklifts, personnel, manual hand pallet jacks, and hydraulic pallet trucks. When a forklift approaches or leaves specified areas, the system must trigger automated audio-visual alerts through LED warning lights to maximize dock safety and reduce accident risks. Furthermore, the client requested that this solution be simple to install and quick to deploy.

The tailored solution we delivered to meet these criteria is a UWB (or Bluetooth-based) Vehicle Sensing System. This implementation involves mounting a UWB Tag (or iBeacon Tag) on each forklift and deploying wireless receivers integrated with alarm lights onto the walls. The LED warning lights can be configured to work in sync across multiple sets, either combined directly with the receiver or split across various locations. Based on the real-time signal strength from the UWB Tag (or iBeacon Tag), the system precisely evaluates the vehicle's proximity to the safe perimeter. Interfaced with localized edge microcomputers, when the system determines that a vehicle has breached the warning zone, it triggers immediate audio-visual alerts via the LED lights to warn personnel. This significantly improves worker safety while eliminating the labor costs associated with manually guarding individual entry and exit lanes.
A key benefit of this wireless vehicle and personnel tracking setup is that every single UWB Tag (or iBeacon Tag) possesses a unique ID. The receiver can strictly track designated IDs and ignore unrelated peripheral tags that might be active nearby. Additionally, the low per-unit cost of UWB Tags (or iBeacon Tags) means they are incredibly cost-effective to deploy, execute, and replace as operational needs scale.
