Project Development Overview

In this project, a client commissioned YenProtek to develop a bicycle counting device, aiming to leverage technology for automated, accurate, and reliable bicycle volume data collection, with the capability to classify and filter out pedestrian and motorcycle interference. Beyond reducing manual labor, this system avoids human errors encountered with manual tallying. To address the client's requirements for 24/7 automated bicycle-related data logging, YenProtek Technology designed the "Smart Bicycle Counting System". By combining automated monitoring equipment with wireless data transmission and Cloud analytics, the solution drastically improves data collection and integration efficiency, yielding much more comprehensive results.
The system primarily comprises sensor strips and a control box. Installation and removal are exceptionally simple and convenient: just mount the waterproof strips and control box at a suitable roadside section. As bicycles roll over, the sensor strips are triggered to gather bicycle signals around the clock, unaffected by changing weather conditions or nighttime constraints. It continuously logs bicycle volume, transit timestamps, and travel speeds over long periods. Once gathered, data is automatically uploaded to the Cloud using NB-IoT technology to form a structured database, serving as an empirical foundation for analysts drafting bicycle-related transit strategies.
In addition to general bicycle traffic statistics, long-term statistical observations provide clients with excellent evidence to evaluate and predict traffic density across different time frames. This helps them map popularity trends for specific locations, schedule optimal maintenance frequencies for associated facilities, and systematically plan bicycle lanes and other supporting infrastructure.
